Dr Boxall’s Hoodia Gordonii
Hoodia is a plant, which grows in Southern Africa’s Kalahari desert. It is a resilient succulent cactus and has been used by the bushmen of the region for thousands of years to suppress hunger and thirst on long and arduous hunting trips. Much like other plants known by the bushmen for their beneficial capacities, Hoodia was believed to be a gift from the gods. In the 70’s South African scientists isolated the active ingredient P 57. The P 57 molecule is unique to the Hoodia plant and has a similar effect on the brain as glucose molecules. Glucose is a simple sugar, which becomes present in the bloodstream after food consumption. These glucose molecules then communicate with the brain’s Hypothalamus, telling the brain that you are full and satisfied. The hypothalamus is the part of the brain, which is, amongst others, responsible for cravings, hydration, feeding reflexes and the metabolism in general. These glucose messages stimulate the receptor sites of the hypothalamus to give us a feeling of satiety after meals. P 57, found in Hoodia, is a far more active molecule than glucose and when ingested it actually tricks the brain into thinking you are full and satisfied. This happens in a completely natural way and will lead you to reduce the size of your meal times simply because you do not feel hungry anymore.
